I feel like the whole of 2017 was one of those really tough times for us. One day I looked up and realized that through those hard times I had turned into a negative Nancy. From our failed venue venture to Hurricane Harvey to my mom being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, so many things have happened that staying positive was last on my list of priorities. I let these things get to me and really struggled to find the strength to come back.

I needed to change. And it didn’t just affect me, I took down Kellan and Alyssa! I couldn’t keep going this way. So I went into action! ??

Fast forward to now, when things get tough, I resort to tried and true ways that I know will keep me in a positive mood.

Look, life seems really strange now. The recent global pandemic has caused much unrest, pain and uncertainty for everyone, especially those directly affected by the disease or who have lost their jobs/lifestyle due to its spread. There have been feelings of denial, shock, sadness and despair and overall just a sense of discomfort as we adjust to our “new normal”.

And justifiably so. This is what we call trauma. Personally, the past 20 months leading up to this time have been incredibly challenging as I have been dealing with a terminal illness and the death of a parent at an early age (the latter while I was in the first trimester of my first pregnancy). Before that, my life was “relatively” normal.

Going through this particular trauma really gave me a crash course in “Life doesn’t always go according to plan and it’s often not fair 101”. Although it was never a course I would have volunteered to take, I found that the skills I used and the lessons I learned during the grieving process helped prepare me for future traumatic situations, such as a global pandemic.
